Badges

How do I get a badge?

Step 1: Fill out forms and have identification available

  1. Submit an Identification Badge Application (81 KB PDF). An authorized person from your company must sign the application. His or her signature-authority must be on file at the ID Access Office.
  2. Authorize fingerprinting/threat assessment
  3. Submit a completed and signed Disqualifying Crimes Sheet (202 KB, PDF)
  4. Two pieces of ID are required. One piece must be a valid government-issued document with your picture on it, (such as a state driver's license). Acceptable second IDs include social security cards or birth certificates.

Step 2: Application Processing and Fingerprinting

  1. Make an appointment at the ID Access Office.
  2. A Customer Service Representative will review and input your application information into the computer.
  3. He or she will request that you fill out a Fingerprint Application and a Fingerprint Information sheet.
  4. If you have not committed and/or been convicted of any disqualifying crimes within the past 10 years, we will fingerprint you.
  5. At this point, you must pay for your badge. Cash, company checks, and credit cards are accepted.
  6. We will fingerprint you on one of our live scanning fingerprint machines. This takes about 10 minutes.
  7. The ID Access Support Representative will verify your information, take your picture, and produce a receipt for your badge.
  8. If this is your first badge, and you were fingerprinted, you will not be given a badge until your passed fingerprint results come back. Fingerprint results usually returned within 1-5 business days. In the meantime, new badge applicants should sign up for and take the SIDA, and AOA (if applicable), training class(es). See step 3.

Step 3: Required Training

Training classes must be completed prior to picking up a badge.

  • Restricted/Screener badges require SIDA training only
  • Driving/AOA badge requires SIDA and AOA training. You must pass a SIDA class before you can take an AOA class.

Pre-class preparation: There's no pre-class preparation required to take the SIDA class.

Before you can take the Driver Training class, you must:

  • Give you your badge.
  • Ask you to test your the badge in the test reader.
  • Ask if you have any questions.

My company already fingerprinted me. Do I get fingerprinted again?

If you work for an airline, and if you have already been fingerprinted by your company, your company will provide you with a release form with the date of the fingerprinting and the fingerprint results, including the FBI code. Bring this form with you. Otherwise, the ID Office will have the results in their computer.

I have a badge with another company. Do I have to be fingerprinted again for a badge with another company?

If you have a badge with another company, and were fingerprinted by them or the badge office within the last 90 days, you will not have to be re-fingerprinted, unless you work for an airline or TSA, or have had 30 days of the last 90 days when you were not continuously employed.

How will I know when my badge is ready?

You can check the status of your pre-badging background check by phone and/or e-mail.

The phone number is (206) 248-4818. E-mail is securitynews@portseattle.org.

When checking on the status of a pre-badging background check please provide your employee ID number and the last three digits of your social security number. Your employee ID number is on the ID/ACCESS Control receipt; be sure to use the employee ID number, not the badge number, which is also on the receipt
